We are a nonprofit organisation with the aim of delivering empowering and meaningful youth work to all children and young people within the Glasgow Govan area. We aim to provide support, information and advice to anyone who makes use of our services (regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religious belief or racial group), and we are committed to the development and regeneration of our local community.
Govan Youth Information Project has been in operation since 1994, and over the years has established itself in Govan as one of the most experienced nonprofit organisations within the area.
We are a Registered Scottish Charity regulated by OSCR, registration no. SC030358.
We are a Company Limited by Guarantee no. 342646.
The area of Govan is classified as a deprived area according to the SMID database. This can leave those who reside in the area exposed to vulnerabilities and poorer outcomes in terms of education, training, employment, health, substance misuse, and anti-social behaviour.
The objective of our project is, therefore, the advancement of education and the relief of poverty, particularly among those aged 5-25 and within the Govan area. GYIP is here to provide support, information and advice to young people while empowering them to contribute to the development and regeneration of our local community. Our education aims to be informal and accessible, yet relevant, honest, and informative so that our young people gain a clear and factual understanding of relevant topics; including employment, health and wellbeing, substance misuse, first aid, and equality and diversity.
